Mexican Magic – Blog

Traditional cuisine, margaritas, music and tequila to toast with friends, here’s our guide to a great Mexican night out at Royal Resorts.

Margaritas at Hacienda Sisal

Welcome to the Hacienda!

Book your table for a Mexican evening of delicious flavors, drinks and music at Hacienda Sisal in Cancun.

Start your Hacienda Sisal dining experience with a selection of tasty snacks or antojitos. Order empanadas, sopes, Mexican-style gyoza filled with roast pork pibil, crispy beef chicharron for tacos, guacamole prepared tableside and queso fundido served with blue corn tortillas, among others. For seafood lovers, the Itacates Trilogy is a must: refried beans are served with Sisal-style fish, octopus in ajillo sauce and shrimp with chorizo.

Other options include salads, beet carpaccio and soups such as the caldo de piedra from Oaxaca, a flavorful seafood soup that dates from the pre-Hispanic period. Fishermen traditionally prepare it with the catch of the day cooking it on stones heated by a campfire on the banks of rivers or on the Pacific coast. At Hacienda Sisal it is prepared tableside in a volcanic stone molcajete or mortar.

Main courses range from Oaxacan mole sauce with chicken breast stuffed with pumpkin flowers, goat cheese, plantains and cheese, traditional marinated pork carnitas, crispy fried chicken flautas, lime shrimp and mezcal salmon. There are steaks, fajitas and the Sisal Molcajete, a mortar filled with grilled lobster, chicken, pork, skirt steak, shrimp, nopales and salsas, perfect for making tacos. Enchilada fans will love the chicken in red or green sauce or in mole, the shrimp or vegetable variations.

Other Hacienda Sisal dining highlights to try are the Sisal lobster, pork in Taxco-style pink mole sauce, chicken in relleno negro from the Yucatan, xcatic beef fillet, crab in pipian pumpkin seed sauce and a pork chop cooked in a pastor-style marinade.

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings there is live Mexican music with Voces de la Tierra and on Wednesdays the mariachis take to the stage.

Traditional recipes, tequila and music in a romantic setting, Hacienda Sisal is perfect for a Mexican evening in Cancun. For more Mexican flavors during the week, be sure to try the Mexican buffets at The Royal Sands on Wednesday and Friday at The Royal Cancun and for all the color of Mexico’s folk dances, don’t miss the Mexican Show at Gran Salón Hacienda Sisal on Wednesday evening.
