Every Action Counts, Protecting the Planet at The Royal Haciendas
From installing solar panels to recycling, switching to eco-friendly cleaning products and planting native trees and shrubs, Royal Resorts is always looking for ways to reduce the environmental footprint and reinforce our commitment to a greener future. On this occasion, we would like to share information about the latest eco initiative at The Royal Haciendas.
In 2024, the Kitchen cleaning team, which is part of the Food & Beverage department, switched to using the EcoBurner system to heat the chafing dishes on the buffets and keep food warm. The EcoBurner is a refillable burner that replaces the traditional gel or wick chafing fuels which leave chemical residues and the pots that end up in the landfill.
In almost one year of usage at The Royal Haciendas, this green action has had exciting results:
September 2024 – June 2025
- A reduction in carbon dioxide emissions – 13.1 tons of CO2 less
- A reduction in waste and fuel residues – 4,001 fewer kilograms of trash for the landfill
- Water conservation – 27,300 liters of water saved
Studies have shown that EcoBurner* can help by reducing carbon emissions as up to 78 percent instead of using solid fuel or ethanol. Traditional wick or gel fuel pots must be disposed of at the end of each buffet service whereas EcoBurner is refillable and every drop of fuel is used, leaving no waste. EcoBurner fuel cans are also recyclable.
Congratulations to The Royal Haciendas team for achieving this important environmental certification from EcoBurner and for helping to protect the planet.
At the Cancun resorts, EcoBurner is now used for the buffets in La Veranda, The Royal Sands, and has been ordered for The Royal Cancun and Hacienda Sisal restaurant, where it will be used for the Sunday Brunch buffet service.
