Starhotels reveals design details of soon-to-open Hotel Gabrielli in Venice

The development of Hotel Gabrielli sees the careful renovation of this 13th-century palazzo and its six surrounding heritage buildings.

A grande dame of hotels

The 1856-opened Hotel Gabrielli, which is located on Riva degli Schiavoni, will reopen at the beginning of 2025 following an extensive renovation.

The property has been owned and run by five generations of the Perkhofer family and has long been considered an open house for luminaries of art, literature, fashion and politics. A landmark on the Grand Tour, this was also a go-to for Orient-Express travellers.

Starhotels is now bringing this property into a new era alongside Salvatore Pisani, appointed Complex General Manager of Starhotels Venice hotels, and Milanese designer Andrea Auletta.

Elisabetta Fabri, President and CEO of Starhotels, commented: “When you’re in this location, everything breathes history and charm. We want to write the new chapter of the famous Hotel Gabrielli, creating an intriguing and whimsical atmosphere, a very classical Venetian experience with contemporary comfort.”

A new chapter

Through its renovation, the property’s interiors continue to embody the history of the grand hotel. The restoration will pay tribute to the memories of this hotel’s past, with original features such as its courtyard columns and Quadrifora windows retained. Local artisans have been involved in the restoration process and a palette of warm greys against ivory, whites and golds recalls the tones of the sea and sky.

The number of keys at the hotel will be reduced from 120 to 73, with the new expanded rooms catering for modern five-star comfort. Of particular note, the presidential suite comes with a private terrace overlooking the lagoon and roofs of Venice.

On reopening, the hotel will feature a new Mediterranean restaurant, with other highlights of the hotel then including a Venetian garden, a scenic roof terrace with sky bar, and an intimate spa.

On the reopening, Salvatore Pisani, Complex General Manager of Splendid Venice and Hotel Gabrielli, said: “We are bringing Hotel Gabrielli back to life and we can’t wait to show the hotel next year.”

“Its excellent location away from the busy tourist areas but within easy reach of Piazza San Marco, the new Gabrielli will be the place for exclusive events, dreamy ceremonies, and the ultimate travel experience.”
